EV Owning Experience: Ford Mustang Mach-E.
An Osprey staff member reviews their experience owning a Ford Mustang Mach-E.
Which EV do you own, and why did you choose this specific model?
I have a Ford Mustang Mach-E and I chose it as in my opinion it's the best looking EV on the market.
What is your favourite feature about your car?
My favourite parts are that it provides a very comfortable ride and instant acceleration if required.
How has your experience been with owning and driving an electric car? How does it compare to owning a petrol car?
My experience driving an EV overall has been excellent. Obviously, the charging takes slightly longer than fuelling an ICE vehicle, but I don't find it an issue.
What do you find most enjoyable or convenient about driving your EV?
The most convenient thing is that compared to an ICE vehicle, it will always "start"!
There is nothing that will fail in an EV which makes it extremely reliable.
Can you share any interesting or surprising moments you've had while driving your EV?
What I find surprising is that if you have the heating or air conditioning on it makes a difference to the range of the car.
Another thing that I’ve noticed since driving my EV is that I have had quite a few people comment on how cool the car looks.
How do you go about charging your EV both at home and on a public network?
I have no charger at home so I rely on public charging, but there are so many Osprey chargers available now so it isn't an issue to find one. The Osprey App is also really convenient in locating the chargers and assessing availability, so I often use that to help my decision.
Have you noticed any differences in maintenance or operating costs compared to a petrol/diesel car?
I have noticed that the maintenance costs for EVs are much cheaper as there are very few things to actually maintain.
The brakes and wiper blades are really the only things that need to be attended to, which sets EVs apart from ICE vehicles and keeps the maintenance costs much lower.
What advice would you give to someone considering purchasing an electric vehicle?
EVs are so much better than you think. They have all the creature comforts we have grown used to.
My advice is that they are brilliant around town but if you have to travel far, plan your journey and you'll be fine.
How do you see the future of electric vehicle ownership evolving?
I'm convinced it will increase. Especially as the purchase costs will come down and battery technology will continue to improve in order to lessen charge times and increase vehicle range.
