EV Review: BYD Atto 3

Exploring the Atto 3.

I am a recent convert to electric cars, having only had my BYD for a few months now. From its cool unique features to its seamless driving experience, the Atto 3 has opened my eyes to a whole new world of driving.

One feature of the Atto 3 that immediately caught my attention is its versatile screen orientation. It can rotate so that it is either landscape or portrait, you can choose a set up that suits you and change it at any time. Absolutely everything can be controlled from the touch screen, allowing me to effortlessly access navigation, air conditioning, and other features with just a simple touch.

Another feature that has made a big impression on me is its keyless entry system. With a simple tap of the wing mirrors, I can effortlessly lock or unlock the car, which means I don’t need to go digging around for my keys in my bag.

Perhaps the most exciting feature of the Atto 3 is the autonomous driving - the car can drive itself! It’s especially good when travelling long distances. Put it in cruise control and autonomous drive, and you can even take your hands off the steering wheel if you want to - although I don’t feel comfortable doing that just yet. You really aren’t required to do much to drive it, it basically does everything for you, it even measures the distance between you and the vehicle in front of you and automatically brakes when you are getting too close to it. It’s a very easy drive!

One unique quirk that the car has is found on the doors. It’s almost like a musical instrument that you can play, like guitar strings. It sounds pretty cool - very unusual and unique!

If my BYD Atto 3 had a personality, I would describe it as ‘totally extra’, just like me. Extra, bougie and it’s just great all around.

Tips for new EV drivers

When you are having to charge your car, as opposed to a petrol station where you have to fill up your car and stand outside whilst you wait, charging stations are typically located with a cafe or a pub where you can grab a coffee or some food. But I will often just relax in my car and watch an episode of something. It’s something I would be doing at home anyway so it means charging doesn’t interfere with my day.

How do you choose where to charge?

I always choose the fastest charger possible - always go ultra-rapid. That way I am only there for half an hour at most - the perfect amount of time for a quick episode of TV

Advice for someone considering making the switch?

Just go for it! Especially now, compared to two years ago there are so many more charging stations with new ones coming about all the time, they are just so easy to find.

And if you are considering a BYD Atto 3, I cannot recommend it enough - I absolutely love my car!
