EV Owning Experience: Lee Rogers.
Osprey staff member Lee reviews his experience owning a Tesla Model 3 Long Range.
Which EV do you own and why did you choose this specific EV model?
I own a Tesla Model 3 Long Range and I chose this specific model because it offered the best range compared to any other electric vehicle on the road at the time.
What is your favourite feature about your car?
My favourite features are probably the tech, comfort and the range.
How has your experience been with owning and driving an electric car? And how does it compare to owning a petrol car?
My experience has been really positive, I have no complaints with driving an electric car and I find that they provide a smoother drive. I think that owning an EV is far superior to a petrol or diesel car as they require less maintenance.
How do you go about charging your EV both at home and on a public network?
I put my car on charge every time I am onsite at Osprey or if there is charger where I am, for example if I am shopping. I only use public charging, with 90% of my charges being on an Osprey charger.
Have you noticed any differences in maintenance or operating costs compared to a petrol/diesel car?
Yes, I find it’s cheaper to charge my EV than fill a car with petrol/diesel so I have cheaper operating costs. The lack of maintenance required for EVs also means that the only things I have ever had to replace are the tyres and wiper blades on my car, significantly reducing my car maintenance costs.
What advice would you give to someone considering purchasing an electric vehicle?
I would suggest planning your routes before leaving home so that you know exactly when and where you will next be charging your car. I also recommend doing your homework to make sure you choose the right vehicle for you and your needs.
How do you see the future of electric vehicle ownership evolving?
I think once the price comes down and EVs are more affordable more people will choose to drive electric cars. Also, you can see a noticeable shift with companies increasingly promoting electric vehicles within their fleets which I think is a trend that will keep growing into the future.
I think there needs to be more information about electric cars so consumers are not blinded by the misconceptions around charging and range. So, when more people start to receive accurate information about EVs I think ownership should increase in the future.
The future for electric cars looks strong and I think the next generation will embrace this form of travel!
